Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to be a Registered Behavior Technician to receive supervision?
Not at all! Behavior therapists and Behavior Consultants/B-Man can also receive supervision.
What is expected of supervisees?
Be a self-starter: you are responsible for ensuring you have enough assignments, articles, projects, materials, etc. to fill the target number of supervision hours each month. Be on time to meetings, deliver assignments by due dates. You are expected to track all of your own hours each month. Ask questions; be inquisitive! This will help you get the most out of your supervision training.
How many times did you take the licensure board exam before you passed?
One & done, baby!
Do I have to be in school to receive supervision?
Yes, you at least need to be in your first semester of your graduate program for BCBA or undergrad for BCaBA. I highly recommend verifying that your coursework is accredited by APBA or ABAI, or if you are taking a VCS.
Do you offer supervision for restricted hours?
Yes! A HIPAA form will need to be signed by the clients or their parent/guardian. If you are an employee, your employer will have to sign a release for you to obtain video recording of you with the client.
What about Arizona supervision, specifically?
The Arizona Board of Psychologist Examiners prohibits an out of state BCBA providing supervision to trainees pursuing BCBA credential. Statue: 32-2091.08(A)(6)A. This article does not limit the activities, services and use of a title by the following: 6. A noncredentialed individual who delivers applied behavior analysis services under the extended authority and direction of a licensed behavior analyst. The individual may not claim to be a professional behavior analyst and must use a title indicating the person’s nonprofessional status, such as “ABA technician”, “behavior technician” or “tutor”.
Unfortunately this means a non-licensed person needs to be supervised by an AZ licensed individual in order to provide BA services in Arizona.
You may always search the BACB directory for available BCBAs willing to superivse trainees in your area.
Can I change my supervision plan later?
Yes and no. We will sign a contract at the onset of supervision which will define how many hours you aim to obtain. You are welcome to initially schedule less supervision hours, and when the contract is complete, add more hours to another contract.
How much does supervision cost?
Because the supervision format is customizable, supervisees will end up paying different amounts. Please schedule a meeting and we can discuss cost for your supervision needs.
Does it matter which state I live in?
Different states have different requirements to practice as a BCBA. Some states require no licensure at all. We will discuss which state you live in, identify if your state has a local governing board separate from the BACB, and ensure that our supervision will meet state licensing requirements. If I cannot meet state licensing requirements for your supervision, I’m happy to help point you in the right direction!
